We welcome Laurene Y. McCrann to our practice!

We would like to introduce Laurene Y. McCrann as the newest member of our firm. Ms. McCrann has officially joined us as a paralegal on January 12, 2015 and will be handling most of our probate files.

Laurene has worked for area law firms for more than 30 years, with a concentration in the areas of probate administration, elder law, and Medicaid planning. Laurene will be handling probate, estate and trust administration matters for the firm, and has worked with Attorney Orlando in these capacities for several years in the past.  Attorney Orlando is thrilled to be working with her again.

Laurene is an honors graduate of Tunxis Community/Technical College and completed her legal assistance training in estate administration at Hartford College for Women. She also attended classes at the University of Connecticut School of Law and has continued her studies by attending seminars by the Connecticut Bar Association, the National Business Institute, the Practicing Law Institute and Connecticut Attorneys Title Insurance Company.

New Medicaid Figures January 1, 2015

Reminders of Medicaid Figures that were adjusted January 1, 2015:

  1. The Community Spouse Protected Amount (CSPA), or the amount of Assets in addition to excluded assets that may be kept by the well spouse, is now increased to half of those assets, capped at $119,220.00, and the minimum CSPA is $23,884.  Ask me how to ensure proper spend down and protection of assets so that you or your loved one can qualify for Medicaid!
  2. The maximum monthly income that one can receive and still qualify for the Connecticut Homecare Program for Elders (CHCPE) is $2,199.00.  However, don’t forget to ask me how to qualify if your income exceeds this amount, with the use of a pooled trust with PLAN of CT.
  3. The maximum home equity exemption is now $828,000.00
